If you arrived at the Edinburgh airport and you don’t know which means to take to get to the Edinburgh City Center, you might want to try these options – let’s make the trip as hassle-free as possible:
- Express Bus 100: Highly recommended by me. The trip schedule starts early in the morning until late at night. £6 return and it takes you to the Waverley Bridge in just about 25-30 minutes. Passenger and tourist friendly (drivers are polite enough to give you the much needed directions) and well-cleaned. It’s just right outside the domestic arrivals. Free Wifi which sometimes works. You can check out the timetables online.
- Bus 35: the cheapest yet I couldn’t guarantee the time you’ll be spending, though it is good for £1.20 each way. Good for those staying on the south side for you can just walk and easily catch this bus. It departs outside, in between the domestic and international arrivals. Check out the schedule online.
- Ride-share shuttle: It costs halfway between bus and taxi. You can get right straight to your doorstep with a little less amount as you cut it half or more than half with the others. Fare ranges from £ 11-12. The fare however varies depending on the site you are going, and you are you sharing it with. The travel time could be from 15 to 30 minutes or more, which is the downside. It departs outside of the domestic arrivals to the left.
- Taxi: One good thing about this is that you can also get right into your door without the hassles. However, the fare, depending on your destination varies from £20-£25. A little bit more expensive yet travel time is just about 15 minutes. It departs outside of the domestic arrivals to the left.
Please note that the Edinburgh airport has been under construction, so the directions above may shift slightly as they are working.
How long before your flight do you need to be at the Edinburgh airport? I say an hour at the minimum, 1.5hrs if you have an international connect (e.g. via London to the USA). Always expect a traffic jam going on to and from the Edinburgh Airport so better have few minutes extra.
